Match report: vs. Sano, Game 2 Japan Cup, 07 May 2011

By Jeff Flew

Our second Twenty20 game of the day and we were feeling confident having just beaten the Sharks. We batted first and were in trouble immediately when Chandana, century maker from our previous game was out third ball for a duck. Kalum was next man out for 7. Goldie and Sujit recovered well putting on 50 runs before Goldie was next man gone run out for 41. Raghav was next man in and he and Sujit got us to 109 before Sujit was out bowled for 14.

I joined Raghav at the crease and Raghav was next man out caught for 38. I followed shortly after for 6. Amila was next out for 7, followed by Sule for 13. Des was last man gone run out for 0, leaving Chris the not out batsman for 14. We ended with 9 for 160, not a bad effrort but we'd need to play well to defend it.

Sano are a strong team and when Amila picked up two batsmen in the opening overs we were looking good. We continued on in good fashion with Golide picking up 3 wickets and we had Sano 5 for 71. From this point we were in the box seat but Sano were hanging in there with one batsmen in particular looking good.

Sule picked up two wickets and with a run out we had Sano 8 wickets down and going into the last over they needed 3 runs to win. I bowled the last over and picked up a wicket first ball with the batsmen out caught behind by Chris. But alas with a wide and the last batsmen hitting two runs into the covers Sano came away with the win by one wicket. It was an exciting match and a disappointing one to lose.
