Paddy Foleys Cricket ClubLatest NewsThis Saturday 4th September is our semi final match in the Japan Cricket League. We will be playing Tokyo Wombats who have won the competetion the past 4 years in a row. It will be a tough ask but we will be doing our best. Weather report predicts 37 degree heat so it will be another scorcher of a day. A win in our final league game over Sano has propelled us into the semi finals. Depending on results in other matches we will finish either 3rd or 4th. This is a huge result for the club in our first year in division 1. September will be a busy month for the club with a semi-final and possible final matches in JCL and a quarter final match in the Pacific Cup. We played our 2nd JCA League match on May 16th against Chiba Sharks losing by 32 runs. It was a good, close match, see Match Reports section for more details. After weather prevented any pre-season friendlies we had our first JCA League match on 25th April playing our old friends and rivals The Predators. It was a big game for the club being our first ever in 1st divsion and we came away with a great result winning by 77 runs. Read more in the match reports section. Great to see Paddy Foleys pick up a mention in Wisden (the cricketer's bible) for the second year running for defending the Japan Cup PFCC Wisden Entry 2010 Update2009 was a great year for the club. We won the JCL Division 2
title, thus securing promotion to Division 1 in 2010 and also won the
Japan Cup for the second year running. Congratulations
to all players for a job well done. 2010 is upon us with the season
starting soon. Our first JCL league game will be 25th April and we
should have a couple of pre-season encounters before then including the
first game of the Golden Bat series on 27th March. The 2010 club AGM was conducted on 27th February and we had a
good turn out of existing and new players. Minutes from the AGM can be
found at this link 2010 AGM
Minutes March 14th is St. Patricks day and each year the club marches
in the parade down Omotesando carrying the club banner. The parade
starts at 2pm, for those marching we will meet in front of GAP on
Omotesando at 1pm. All players are welcome to come and join the parade.
Afterwards we should be going for drinks and food somewhere - more
details to follow about that. Club BackgroundWelcome to Paddy Foleys Cricket Club, named after the famous Irish pub located in the heart of Roppongi, Tokyo. We are a Tokyo based team with members from a variety of countries. The team was formed in 2005 by a bunch of guys who either
worked or
drank at the pub. Spending time together watching the 2005 Ashes and
other series and talking cricket in general, most had played in their
younger days, the idea was thrown up to form a team, and so Paddy
Foleys Cricket club was
born. The first seasons were tough, with most guys not having played
for years they were severely short of both match practice and fitness.
Many also had trouble combining their new sports schedule with their
entertainment schedule - it was not unusual for players to literally
walk straight from the pub at early morning closing and onto the bus
for cricket. Well since then we have grown a bit, although we still pride
ourselves on being a team that enjoys ourselves as much off the field
as on and you will often find us enjoying a drink at Paddys, especially
after winning games. In 2008 we achieved our first ever competition wins picking
up two trophies the Japan Cup and the Golden Bat. We then backed that
up with two titles in 2009, defending the Japan Cup and winning the
Japan Cricket League Division 2 title. As a club we are always looking for
new members, anyone interested in playing or finding out more
